That's more compensation then actual manliness, I would think.

As opposed to huge hard pieces that you use to ram into other men? Sure, totally heterosexual there. Yep.

Oh, so manliness is mutually exclusive to homosexuality. I see now.

Point taken though. How about they're both compensation?

If you have a fetishistic desire for anything violent, long, hard, and designed to go into another human being..yea, you're overcompensating. I'll agree.

Wait, someone had just said a few pages ago that the honor lies in the owner, not the weapon.
So, are we really debating which weapon is more honorable, or are we aruguing which is more manly? Sounds like the second one to me.

I must say, Fresnel, that is the most compelling argument concerning guns and swords I have heard to date. While I can can see and understand what is being said of swords, I prefer them to guns. THAT, my friend, is the only true difference of the weapons...personal preference. The two are incomparable, save their ability to kill, which both handle fairly efficiently. I must also agree, it comes to the terms of 'defining honor', which is seeming to be non-existent in todays society, by my standards. I simply prefer blades to bullets, as the training it takes to wield one in a proper manner keeps me tone and chiseled. smile

The MG42 & 34 is 7.92x57 or roughly 8mm Mauser. I don't believe that those tumble inside. Perhaps it's the amount they're shot with it.

The MG42 was called "Hitler's Chainsaw" for its high ROF which would tear people apart, the 8mm Mauser itself is a very powerful round which also led to its ability to make many large holes in people.

If the MGer was quite far away, it might tumble, but this was not a desired effect or something people tried to do, because being farther away makes for less shots where you want them.

Really? I never heard it called that.

Of course if it was far enough away, but in its effective range it wouldn't be doing that.

It was also called "Hitler's Zipper" but I think that's funny so I never say it.

Yeah, it should not be doing that.

lol wtf?

I guess that was some failed GI lingo.
Put in some earplugs and listen to one shoot, and you'll know why it was called that.

Seriously, it sounds like someone getting ready to take a piss.

Well typically any form of hand to hand combat is more honorable or considered to be more honorable than ranged combat. The traditional reason being is that hand to hand combat is much more personal in the sense that you see the person you are fighting and obviously the person you are fighting is more or less handicapped than you with whatever weapon you are wielding. Throughout history weapons have evolved and each has their own purpose or just to better that purpose. And guns are just another step in the evolution of weapons.

For the most part it is true that the weapon it self carries no honor but the person who uses it does. So what you do with a weapon determines if you have honor or not.

It is!

Swords are manly. How's that?!

Disagreed.

Actually, that's an acceptable size for a 20mm anti-tank rifle. It is, however, not American. I think it's Finnish. Definitely Scandinavian.

You don't even have to get through the first couple paragraphs to realize that you don't know what you're talking about, Fresnel.
For those that care about the way of the sword, it can be a far more honorable and meaningful weapon of choice, and the same goes for the fight.
I suggest you learn more about swords before taking them so lightly.
Yes, they're silent, silence is an advantage carefully earned, and even if you have a sword there's no guarantee that you yourself will be silent with it. So no, it's not unfair that they're silent.

Well if you read the whole thing and you weren't so stupid and kept reading (sorry anything else was a lot worse) you would know that it was satire.
