September 3rd, 2008:
As a reminder, September is RP hiatus moth in honor of both the 4th anniversary and the recent boost in activity - woo! BUT, if you haven't gotten your August posts in, get them in by the 10th! They are still necessary and not part of the hiatus month.

exclaim Also, about the poll - these are LARGE and MEDIUM breed suggestions ONLY. I am not doing chihuahuas, pugs, dachshunds, or anything of the like. Aershaa are large creatures, and even the Earths are twice the size of a cat.

Good luck in classes for all who are in school!

FOR MEMBERS ONLY: Free Aershaa that doesn't count towardsyour maximum Aershaa count! Prove you'll play him well, and he's yours! Elder Cricketsong

August 31st:
Check out setsunasakuya's art shop, free for all Aershaa owners! The Aershaa Art Freebie Shop!

Also, working on renovating the shop, so pardon our dust while everything is reconstructed. Yes, again - I rushed the last one. I'm going with an entire new theme and look with this one - we're going back to the white background with gold trim again.

August 30th:
For those of you who haven't noticed, the month of september is RP hiatus month. That does NOT mean that you cannot be warned for slacking in august when the notices come out on the 10th - august RP posts still need to be made if they haven't already.

Thanks to everyone who stays active and enthusiastic - you guys make this place all the more worth while to keep going. :3

August 29th, 2008:
Discluding the people I talked with about ordering a custom late, gold-paid customs are now closed until winter. If you really want an Aershaa, help me pay for my books and order one with real money!

I'll be around less frequently starting Tuesday, as I'll be returning to college. You'll find me around weeknights after 7EST and afternoon weekends.

I owe RPs, I know. They're unforgotten. smile

August 18th, 2008:
All elemental description threads are now complete. Tell me if there's anything more you'd like to know about any of the types of Aershaa.

Opened 5 more custom slots, because I felt like it. wink

August 11th, 2008:

In the beginning, there was nothing but pure emptiness, a void without a living soul, save for one. In the skies, there was one great being that formed the darkness. He was Khan, the lord of all that was, of the night, of the skies, and of the stars. His midnight black pelt formed the sky itself, his three eyes, the brilliant moons, and on his pelt were encrusted glimmering shards of ice and stone, forming the great stars above. Khan, though proud and mighty, grew lonely ruling the skies alone, and tired of his eyes and coat shining without anyone to witness their glory and praise their light. So from his coat, he scratched an immense pile of the glimmering stones and ice, and with them formed a great sphere to provide land for his followers to walk on. On this sphere, he carved creatures of ice and stone in the likeness of his image – massive bat-like wings, to serve him in the sky, long muzzles, through which they could praise him, thick manes of fur to keep them warm so as to not return to their frozen states, four legs, so as to dance for him, two long ears to listen to his words, and two gleaming eyes, to take in his mighty glory. The final gift he bestowed upon them was a shining blade on the end of a long tail, to take down whomever may decide to oppose him, for only he could be great, and could never be challenged. Each of these beings was intelligent, clever, and, as they were created from his image, bared Khan’s selfish personality, so it wasn’t very long before each began to argue with the other.

“I am the greatest, for stone stands strong and unbreakable, and cannot be moved by another’s will,” cried Stone, standing before Ice with fangs bared and tail raised, heated with selfish pride, ego, and a fierce temper. Neither he nor ice would be satisfied until one admitted the other was greater, and neither had the will to give in.

“No, I am the greatest, for ice can freeze time itself, allowing no stone to move; no being to shift at their own will,” Cried Ice, before charging at Stone and his kin, with others of ice beside her.

Stone cracked and ice shattered, as echoes of snarls crying and blades crashing rang through the night air, rising to Khan’s mighty ears. Seeing the quarreling between his creations infuriated him, for only he should be fought over as the greatest, not those below him. It had become out of his hands, he realized, as his cries over the land were unheard through the deafening clatter of battle below. And so, he released the brightest of his eyes into his mighty paws, and from it he created S’feena, meaning in the ancient tongue “she of warm light”. S’feena was given two gifts to aid Khan. The first gift was of creation, with which she could weave stories of his greatness, and miracles to strengthen their worship of him. The second gift he bestowed upon her was the gift of heart. With Heart, combined with Creation, she could calm the fury between Stone and Ice with her soothing, kind words. But Heart was more than Khan had realized, for not even he could know the extent of his power. Heart was not only a gift that gave warmth and calmed, but it needed warmth and happiness in return, for without it, it would whither and die. So over time, with only the company of the self-centered inhabitants of the world, S’feena grew weak and lonely, and her light began to dim. Her warm heart had begun to turn cold, and a hatred for the cold world and the being that created it slowly grew. It was one evening that Khan was resting his mighty eyes that S’feena slipped away in the darkness, to a part of the world yet untouched. To the empty night, she wove tales of a beautiful world over the cold stone world that was through mystical howlsong; howlsong so beautiful that the tales took form and life, filling the world with life and color. Plants sprung from the ground to create colors to shine, cleanliness, and soft ground to tread upon. She created creatures great and small to tend to the plants and to each other, and molded the land like clay with abstract beauty. And finally, she created the 3 light elements, which spread across the world like a blanket, and the 3 beings that ruled over them. First was Fire, who was given the gift of warmth, light, as well as a great burning power, to protect and cleanse the land. Next was Water, who was given the gift of movement and life, for from that moment on no being would survive without its presence. And finally, she created Air, whom held the gift of voice, song, and became the alpha of the light elements, for Air alone could strengthen them and give them power. The elements they ruled spread across the world, and each stood in a land ruled by its element, keeping the balance throughout the world.

Khan awoke with a furious rage, for nothing could be greater than what he created, and his world had been at the state of utmost perfection in his eyes before it was coated in un-needed life. Life that didn’t serve him was worthless, he proclaimed, and he sent the army of his followers and creations across the land, destroying all that lay in their path in search of S’feena. But S’feena hid herself in the skies, and cried out for her children to stop them. Fire, Air, and Water loved her dearly, and loved the land she had created, and so rushed to oppose them without hesitation. But it was a greater challenge than they had expected, for fire could not exist in darkness, water in ice, or wind in stone – each had their perfect opposite, and they were evenly matched. For years the elements clashed unmoving to a point of exhaustion, until S’feena finally gathered the courage to return. She appeared to Air in a time of rest, and bestowed upon him renewed power, even greater than he’d had when born.

“With this,” she cried, “you can give strength to brother Fire and sister Water, and expand their forces across the land, as well as your own, to drive back the darkness. The land will be filled with light at last!”

And so it was, as Air, with renewed strength, blew a mighty gust through Fire and Water and spread them across the land. A rallying cry rang out, and the forces returned to the lands torn by battle to finish what had begun. But Khan, with his mighty gleaming eyes, had seen S’feena’s efforts. The forces of light came to meet an equally massive force of darkness. Most were carved from stone and ice as Khan’s first creations had been, but in the front of the line stood those with pelts darker than all the others, woven from Khan’s very midnight fur, their eyes gleaming crystals of ice. The largest of them, Kriir, stepped forth, until he was nose to nose with Air.

“I have come from the land of the night sky to punish those who have opposed Great Lord Khan, for I alone have all his power. You cannot win.”

But there were no words to move Air, and he stood silently, with gleaming ferocity in his endless eyes, a gaze so deep that Kriir had to step back, so as to not fall in.

After what could have been days of cold stares, each side sizing up the other, the two alliances charged into battle with a mighty roar, with their creators gleaming overhead, bestowing their power down upon their land to strengthen each of their forces. But each would tire, their light vanishing from the skies for hours at a time, for not even creators had infinite power. And now, to this very day, each creator rises and falls with their strength to watch over their mighty forces, battling for the fate of the world that came to be known as Dreyrull, a word meaning everlasting. For it didn’t matter how long and hard these creatures fought upon its surface, the world continued to live, grow, and shine in its place amongst the universe.

And so it was told, the aershaa, mighty beasts of the elements, were the very soul of the world itself. Whether it was a time of peace or chaos, it all depended on their harmony. Ah, but don’t take my word for it. Come. Let me take you to the time when one single soul, one single aershaa, saved this world, and restored the balance to us all…

The Aershaa have their legend, but in reality, it’s another story…

2,000 years ago, the humans came to this new world of Dreyrull after completely destroying their own. It was named Terrak in the human tongue, literally meaning “this land” – Dreyrull is the Aershaa name for the world. When they arrived, the world was inhabited by animal creatures of all kinds, and, to their surprise, a creature nearly identical to the Earthen wolf. Their dogs were all gone by now, and so the humans worked to “improve” the wolflike creatures for their own purposes – service, defense, and of course, companionship. They did the same with other animals, and at first, this worked – they had recreated the dog, and had domesticated all sorts of animals into housepets – the rikkita, a form of long-eared rodent resembling a cross between a rabbit and a squirrel, the fliger, a very large breed of cat that resembled the tabby, and the ordo, a large flightless bird used for riding are just a few worth mentioning.

A few hundred years passed and it had all gone smoothly, until a man by the name of Fredrick Arla decided to take in the domesticated animals and improve upon them further. His dream was to create an entire military of strong, fast, intelligent, and fierce creatures. Through gene splicing, genetic mutation, and years of failure, he eventually humanized what were once house pets, amongst other captured wild creatures of the world. The earliest successes weren’t exactly fierce or strong, and instead became “helpers” to the humans – essentially, slaves. Even the later experiments that had the qualities of warriors were put into servitude. This was a time of peace and new revelations on Terrak.

The dogs, however, had taken a very different path. It was years later before the “new” dogs had taken on any successful form. Arla’s idea was to create, essentially, an air-army that could both attack from the sky and on land. He was a brilliant man, and had finally discovered how a heavy-boned species could fly, though this secret was lost with him, and humans to this day still wonder upon it. He called them Airla – simply a mutation on his own last name mixed with the word “Air” for such flighted creatures.

The first of these skyborn military dogs was named Khan after one of the great leaders of the world at the time. But he was out of control – too fierce to command, to violent to approach, and so he remained cage as Arla continued to experiment.

Khan’s sibling was the next to be worked on, who was known as Athena (later called S’feena in the Aershaa tongue.) She was just the opposite – far too timid, peaceful, and loving for anything to be found on a battlefield. But she was obedient, and soon became his faithful lab assistant. She’d often seem to disappear, however, before Arla discovered that it was a mutation in her DNA that allowed her to do so. This was a valued trait, and so he used her DNA to clone his next airla experiments.

There were 5 of them, each named for the qualities they had and the abilities they held – Fire, Water, Air, Ice, and Stone. These were the first successful airla, or so he thought. They were loyal, strong, and he had even created one for battles in the sea by accidental mutation in the cloning process. Thrilled with his discovery, Doctor Arla released the information to scientists around the world.

But this was a time of darkness for the airla. They were moved to a larger facility, force-bred, experimented on, put through rigorous training and experiments to the breaking point. And it was one night in their caged pens that they had enough.

“It’s time we left this place,” announced Athena in the darkness, “And made lives of our own away from the scourge of the white coats.”

Cheers arose from Fire, Water, and Air, whom had become close companions of Athena in the months that had passed. But a growl arose from Khan, who had since gone through shock treatment and heavy obedience training like one could never imagine.

“No! It will only make the white coats angrier. Even if we can get out, they’ll track us down and double – no, triple our routines. This will only end in pain.”

Growls of agreement came from Ice and Stone, both endlessly loyal to Khan. But if Athena was anything, she was dedicated to her ideas, and soon she phased right through the bars. The other stared in awe – even Khan – for none of them had known that it was possible for her. They assumed the same as the white coats had – that she could merely appear invisible. But despite being mutated from her DNA, the others could not push themselves through the bars.

Athena thought quickly. Airla could understand and speak English perfectly after the multitudes of experiments performed on them, and had picked up on facts that they wouldn’t otherwise know themselves. The one that came to mind was a type of acid that typically melted metal didn’t effect them, and was kept on hand for experimentation in a container in the room they were stored in. Apparently it was the base for a lot of various substances they used. Everything was stored in there – they were just equipment to the humans like anything else in there. What she hadn’t heard, however, was that it did effect one of the 7 – Khan. Without a word spoken or a moment’s hesitation, she rushed to the containment unit.

It was too heavy and enormous to budge, but there was a pressure gauge attached. She had assisted Arla for long enough to know how to work it, and quickly turned it up, striking the side of the container with her tailblade. She didn’t consider that the blade itself was made of metal, and when the container finally began to crack, the blade was gone in the blink of an eye.

A crack – another crack – and then a loud bang was the signal that the container had burst. The sloped floors carried the acidic substance to the cages, and one by one each of the airla leapt out. All but Khan. As the others ran, Athena turned back and called to Khan, getting a yelp in return. She bounded over the acidic pavement, and stared in horror at the bleeding form laying at the bottom of the cage. But she’d gotten there too late – only a glance at his glossed over eyes told her that he was already gone.

Though she and the rest weren’t effected easily by this acid, it wasn’t comfortable to stand in for long period of time, so with a heavy heart, she bounded off after the others.

She, the other airla, and the clones and pups they’d released on their way, had made it out with only a moment to spare. The earth shook as the lab erupted behind them from the collision of all the chemicals stored in that room.

They dashed into the woodlands – ran, and ran, and ran, until they were sure that they were far from civilization. As they rested, one remained standing, growling as he stepped over to Athena, bearing his fangs and hovering over her panting form.

“You’re a FOOL! You’ve killed him!”

It was Kriir, an exact clone of Khan and his most loyal companion. The only thing differing between the two was Kriir was far, far more organized.

Athena shook her head softly. “I didn’t know… I did try to save him, but it was too late. All I can do is beg for your forgiveness.”

She submit beneath him, only to be raked across the throat by his massive claws. Fire, Air, and Water, along with their clones and kin, leapt infront of her in her defense. Stone, Ice, and their kin arose in response. Hackles were raised and growls rumbled like thunder in this long moment. There were so many of them, kin and clones alike, that one listening would truly mistake them for just that – thunder. Near 200 of them had fit into and run from that facility.

And then, they sprung. They ran. They flew. Right into the human cities. Right into the belly of a battle that changed human and airla history alike. There were the humans that fought alongside them to protect their rights to be free creatures, and then the humans that wished to destroy them, for the airla had turned their anger onto the humans as well as each other once they hit their cities. They all mutually decided that it was as much of their fault as anyone else’s for the death caused, and their bloodlust turned them down from the skies and to the earth. They rejected the name airla, and became their own race – the Aershaa, the first word created in their own tongue, meaning warriors of the sky.

When the furs – that is, the first experimental creatures that had now spread across the world as the human’s slaves – witnessed the Aershaa’s revolt, they joined them against the humans. It was at this time that the discovery was made of what light’s energy-and-form-manipulating DNA had truly done for the Aershaa. Over the years, Aershaa, furs, and the humans that sided with them were able to band together in a unique bond, making them yet stronger than they were, and driving back the forces that opposed.

It took 100 years before the wars died down, and a time of quiet was brought upon them. But it was costly – the world became barren of the old technologies, used up and destroyed in the revolts. It became a more simple place like Earth had been hundreds, maybe thousands of years before its destruction.

But it only seemed to be a dead war. 1,000 years passed in this cold silence between Aershaa and man, and sure as anything, history was bound to repeat itself.

---------

It is now 2,138 AS (after settlement) in the human calendar, and the year 1,000 AF (after freedom) to the Aershaa and fur-kind. Tensions are rising again, and the humans long for the power over the world they once had. There are the Aershaa that have sided with the humans ideas of a cold, steel world, with them side by side. Other Aershaa – Loyal Servants of Khan – follow in the path of the legends of the great Khan, warped by storytellers and time into religious lore. They wish to create a world void of humans, S’feena’s followers, and all means of life other than Aer-kind to worship Khan “as it was meant to be.” At their crown is the wingless dark Aershaa Arrow, a greedy, controlling, deceptive creature of great power and hatred for all who do not fit his ways. The final side are the humans, furs, and Aershaa that follow Athena’s – now S’feena’s – dream of a peaceful, healthy world without war.

"When the furrs – that is, the first experimental creatures that had now spread across the world as the human’s slaves – witnessed the Aershaa’s revolt, they joined them against the humans. This is bonding – an unbreakable link between Aershaa and two-leg that stretches across worlds, across death, and yes, even across lifetimes. Imagine your soumate, the man or woman you seek for all of your life, that missing piece - it's like that, without the romance. It's a bond of friendship and of unity, as both Aershaa and their two-legged counterpart are a part of one another in the spiritual sense, incomplete alone. The Aershaa and their bond are always a part of each other from their creation, but often do not know it for many lifetimes to come. They feel each other’s pains, hear each other’s thoughts (when desired), and share each other’s strengths and weaknesses. The pain of death is the only pain that they do not share. Death can put the bond into an emotional slump, a breakdown, and there have even been cases where a coma had been induced if the shock is too great for them. But the bond never breaks. When the Aershaa re-incarnates, that new Aershaa will share the same bond. The same goes for when the furr or human passes away. When reincarnated, they will be bound to that same Aershaa soul, wherever they may be. It's just a matter of finding them again.

Not every Aershaa chooses to seek their bond, however. There are still some that decide it's better to go it alone, don't trust others well enough, or just haven't yet found the soul they're seeking.

If you would like to bond your Aershaa to a human or furr at a later time, simply rp your discovery between Aershaa and bond, and PM Aershaa for a cert change. NO COST!

S’feena’s Children

These are the Aershaa that follow in S’feena’s footsteps, wishing to bring life and balance to the world and to preserve its beauty and cycle. They are trying to end the war with everyone in the ideal state of peace, but unfortunately most realize they must fight to do so.

Loyal Servants of Khan

Khan's Loyal believe that Aershaa were created by Khan, and so should follow in his will. They believe S'feena was wrong to take her power so far and create life that was not for Khan's servitude, and so live to restore the world of it's original glory - that of an Aershaa-dominated globe that forever shines under his gaze.

Draiah's Faithful

Two kinds of Aershaa remain neutral to the sides of Khan and S'feena, and though they may believe in them, instead follow in the world-spirit Draiah's ways of neutrality and peace.

••••••••••Different Types of Aershaa••••••••••

Normal
arrow Standard, defectless Aershaa.
arrow Has wings, a blade, and is of only 1 element. (Lights excluded from blade rule.)
arrow Both parents were of the same element.

Wingless
arrow Genetic Defect in same element matings – can be of any element
arrow Typically happens in second and third generations
arrow 1/20 chance in breeding
arrow Faster on land than winged Aershaa, reaching speeds up to 70MPH

Mix
arrow A mix between two elements.
arrow Offspring takes the physical traits of only one of the elemental types.
arrow Mixes can either have no signs of their other element, or look like one, control the magic of the other.

Mizpup
arrow Genetic Defect when elements crossbreed.
arrow Mismatched wings with body-type, fur-type, etc.
arrow Does not occur with all crossbreeds. They will typically take on the mother’s element.
arrow 1/10 chance of visible traits.

Baneblood
arrow Same as mizpups, but a name for when a Khan-Loyal and a S'feena's-Child crossbreed.
arrow 1/2 chance of visibility instead of 1/50, since the two sides are not intended for breeding.

The Tame
The Tame are any Aershaa that have been taken in/captured by humans as pets. Typically they are raised by the Committee For Domestication of Bladewolves, with parents captured from the wild. Their blades and teeth are clipped, their wings cropped, and their tempers molded for use as housepets or guardians. Most humans choose to clip their vocal chords, thus disabling their ability to speak, though most are still able to bark. This isn't the case in all houses - the lonlier and less-superstitious ones chose to keep the voices for someone to talk to.

Most of the Tame do not know they are Aershaa, for humans will refer to them as Bladewolves, or as the dog breed "Airla."

Wild Aershaa are mixed about the tame. They either pity them, or find them disgusting for allowing such a degree of domestication, for even escaped tame are never truly wild.

idea - New Question

So what are the rules here?
Go HERE to read them!

Is this shop RP required?
Yes, but not demanding. Go HERE to read about keeping up with the RP quota.

Can we just RP our pets in the shop?
No. All RP occurs in the guild. The only exception is when a character is trying to catch others' attention; in the case of an announcement.

I do, however, allow OOC RP amongst characters. They just don't count.

idea What does 1 month rp time mean?
It means that it will be a month before your pup grows, and in that time you must RP it.

What is BONDING?
There's a post above that says "Aershaa and their bonded" which explains thoroughly before the owner's list begins. You may also visit HERE.

What is a REGION?
A region is where your Aershaa calls home. Click the map in the Rp section to be directed to the region thread.

How do I get an Aershaa?
You need to wait for either a flatsale, an auction, a raffle, or custom slots to be open. Begging for one out of these times is not tolerated.

How many Aershaa can I have?
Three is the limit. You will occasionally see people with 4, 5, or more - these people have special permission.

But I have this GREAT idea for an Aershaa, and I SWEAR I'll play him/her.
PM me and tell me about them. If I like your concept, and if you're an avid RPer here, likeliness says I'll let you have them. smile

Why is there a limit?
To give a fair chance for everyone to own one, and for purposes of taking care of all your Aershaa.

How do I make my Aershaa grow?
Stay active in the shop and RP. It’s that simple.

I want to play an elder Aershaa, but it takes too long to grow to one – I don’t want to wait 2 years. How can I do this?
2 ways – you can custom order an elder Aershaa, or you can buy a potion to age your Aershaa instantly into the elder stage.

What if I'm going on vacation?
PM the shop mule and let me know, I'll put your status as vacation. smile

Light Aershaa can’t die of old age, but can they be killed?
Yes, when in solid form.

I have a Child of S’feena / Loyal Follower of Khan, but I don’t want my character to have anything to do with the feuding and war. What can I do about this?
You’re welcome to be a neutral Aershaa, either against the war or apathetic about it.

Okay, so my Aershaa is neutral, and has a mate in the opposite “faction.” Can they breed?
Yes, but the child has a high-chance of being stillborn, and otherwise will be a baneblood, which are outcasts in the Aershaa world.

Artwork & Customs

Is the lineart traditional or digital?
All Aershaa lineart is done by hand, either in micron or a precise V5 pen. The newer lineart is put through an effect called "Live Trace" in Illustrator CS3 that cleans it up for me, but is still done traditionally.

What do you color with?
Photoshop CS 3.

There are bonded furries and humans in this RP, but I don’t see any…

I want a custom Aershaa, but there are no slots open. When is there going to be a slot open?
I’m a busy college student. Please be patient when there are no slots open – it typically means “I’m insanely busy.” You’re welcome to stick around Aershaa, chat, and RP with outside characters, as long as they fit the character guidelines.

If you're REALLY desperate, I offer REAL-LIFE Customs.

I have a question that isn’t here! Now what?
Please PM “Aershaa” with it! I’ll be glad to answer and add it to the list.
