::[Welcome to the Lifestyle Discussion Forum!]
(This thread was last updated on 3 / 16 / 08 )

::[Introduction]
Welcome to the Lifestyle Discussion forum. This is a place where you can discuss different lifestyle aspects with other people. Several subforums have been relocated here from their original location so please make use of them over the main forum. Before you start posting, please make sure to read through the following list of approved and rejected threads for this forum to avoid getting in any trouble, as well as to get an idea of what can be posted in this forum. Make sure to have fun, and see you around!

::[BASIC STRUCTURE]
The Lifestyle forum is similar to other discussion forums in that you can discuss a topic. However, this forum is limited to topics in the genre of lifestyle. Creating threads can be easy in this forum, as long as your thread has the following it can work in this forum:

  • The thread is an open discussion
  • The topic relates to an aspect of a lifestyle, discusses a lifestyle, or follows one of the approved thread topics listed below
  • Would not be suited better in another forum

Pretty simple huh? Now creating a topic that will interest other people can be tough. If you're having trouble or want some ideas, take a look at the following approved threads to get some ideas. Just avoid making any sort of thread that would fit in the rejected pile.

::[APPROVED THREADS!]
Need some ideas on what to post? These are the type of threads that should be made in the forum:

  • School Lifestyle Discussion {NEW~!}
    School has a huge impact on people's lifestyles. In this forum you can discuss anything school related that affects your lifestyle from cliques, school events such as prom, to how your lifestyle choices mesh with what you learn and experience in school.

  • Support Groups
    Note that these are not hangouts but rather threads created for the sole purpose to show support and discuss an issue. For example, a thread that discusses allergies and those with them can be considered a support group. It can serve as a place where people can discuss their struggles and their experiences.

  • Weight loss threads / Tracker Threads
    Any thread discussing weight loss, diets trends, types of exercise, etc. are permitted in this forum. Tracker threads are similar to support groups and are permitted. Keep track of how much weight you've lost, discuss your struggles, and work together helping each other.

  • Religious lifestyle discussion
    Lifestyle issues like finding certain kinds of clothing, finding/cooking kosher or halal foods, and a lot of things that also cross into ethnic/cultural celebrations such as festivals, dances, holidays, etc. are suitable for discussion in this forum.

  • Architecture & Furnishings discussion
    Be it green or wealthy living, discussion of the home is permitted.

  • Subculture discussion
    Discussion of the behaviors and beliefs of subcultures is permitted granted it is open discussion and not condemning or praising. There are all kinds of subcultures you can discuss. Some examples include Beatniks, Cosplayers, Furry fandom, Gamers, Hippies, and so on.

  • Genetic problems/illnesses/physical handicap discussion
    Keep in mind this should be focused mainly on discussion regarding lifestyles changes involved as well as ways of coping, etc. It must be open discussion that is not condemning.

::[REJECTED THREADS!!!]
Oh no! Da-Da-Da-Dangerous! Please avoid making the following type of threads in this forum:

  • Anecdotes & Personal Experiences {NEW~!}
    Threads should have topics that are accessible to many members, not just to a small group or a single person. Threads must be on generating discussion rather than just sharing the story. If all you wish to do is share something that you have done or that happened to you, or to rant about an issue, we ask that you use your journal or the Chatterbox forum.

  • Personal Habits / Behavior Discussion {NEW~!}
    Habits and behaviors are more of a psychological pattern which are acquired through frequent repetition. Do not make threads discussing personal habits or behaviors in this forum. Please make use of the General Discussion forum or the Chatterbox forum as appropriate.

  • Dreams / Paranormal Phenomena {NEW~!}
    Pretty straight forward, dream discussion or paranormal discussion is not permitted in this forum. Do not post these type of threads in this forum, instead make use of the General Discussion forum or the Chatterbox forum as appropriate for these topics.

  • Love / Relationship Discussion {NEW~!}
    Love is a part of life, but it isn't a lifestyle. If it isn't addressing a lifestyle or an aspect of one, keep all love topics in the appropriate forum. Make use of the General Discussion forum, Chatterbox forum, and Life Issues forum as appropriate for these topics instead of the Lifestyle Discussion forum.

  • Guru / Information Threads {NEW~!}
    As stated in the recent announcement, Guru threads are not permitted. These include threads meant to display as much information as possible regarding a topic or where the point of the thread is to generate "ask questions, get answers" sessions regarding a topic. Do not make these kind of threads in this forum.

  • Debate Threads / Religious Advertising {UPDATE~!}
    Serious debate/discussion threads are not permitted in this forum. Such threads belong in the Morality & Religion forum, and lighter god/faith discussion in the General Discussion forum. Any threads made in this forum for proselytizing purposes will be deleted.

  • Low content non-structured threads
    While any of the approved threads are suitable to make, making really low content or non-structured versions are not. The idea is to provoke discussion, and if there's very little to discuss, it's just not suitable for the forum. Topics such as, "what are you doing this weekend" and "how is your life" are examples of what not to post.

  • "Am I hot?" / Post your picture threads
    "Rate me", "Hot or Not", "Could I be a model?" and similar appearance validation threads are not appropriate for Lifestyle Discussion. Also, any sort of thread where the main goal is to get people to post pictures will not be permitted. Please post these type of threads in the Chatterbox Forum instead.

  • Promotion of dangerous or harmful practices
    While discussion about these topics can be permitted, explaining how to join in a dangerous lifestyle or promoting a dangerous lifestyle will not be permitted. Some examples of this are anorexia or bulemia.

  • Misplaced Threads
    Any sort of thread which would be better suited in another forum, will be moved to that forum. When your thread is moved, make note of the forum, and remember to make further postings of that nature in that forum to avoid being mistaken as spam.

    If you discover that someone has posted one of the these types of threads, feel free to use the button to report the thread so it can be moved to a correct forum.

::[General Reminders of what NOT to do]

  • NO TROLLING
    Trolling usually consists of making posts aimed at provoking other users or upseting them. However there are a wide-variety of trolls out there it's hard to pinpoint a specific example to look out for. Either way, it is non-friendly behavior and will not be tolerated in the Lifestyles forum.

  • NO FLAMING
    Flaming is when a user posts hostile comments meant to insult / harass another user. These types of posts are not permitted in this forum and will not be tolerated. If a person flames you on your thread, please use the report post button on that post, and do not flame the person back as it can get you in trouble as well.

  • NO CYBER REQUESTS
    Cyber activity is NOT permitted anywhere on Gaia. I don't know why you would request it in this forum, but do not make threads in this forum requesting cyber. This includes requesting / posting / distributing anything inappropriate or pornographic.

  • NO BUMPING
    There is no need to push your thread up to the top of the forum unless it has fallen off the first page. Excessively bumping your thread is considered spamming, do not bump in this forum or make threads for the sole purpose of bumping.

  • NO ADVERTISING
    Do not post any advertisements in this forum. This includes posting them as threads or as replies on other user's threads.

  • NO SPAMMING
    Lifestyles is not Chatterbox. Do not post gibberish, gold requests, or anything that would be better suited for another forum. Excessively making multiple threads is discouraged as well. Please try to limit the amount of threads you make and stick with them.

If you notice someone doing any of the above mentioned things, please feel free to use the button or the button so it can be taken care of.
