Read this to help protect your account from Scammers and Hackers!

Please be aware that malicious users will try to trick you to click on false links to try and get your password to steal your account and your items.

As you may know, we strongly advice you against sharing your password with anyone else (Real Gaia Staff will NEVER ask you for your password. To find out more about how to spot Staff Impersonation click here).
So Scammers are now hidding password scamming links within banners or text links that claim to give out FREE GOLD or items, or to VOTE for them, or to TEST new features, etc

There are a few legit giveaways, so beware of the links you click.
Hover your mouse over the link, and make sure it directs to http://www.gaiaonline.com
Any other website that doesn't start with that address and asks for your Gaia username and password is a FAKE site. They will get your password, hack your account and continue to scam users with it.
If it logs you out, verify you are still in www.gaiaonline.com BEFORE entering your password again.

These are some examples of some scamming posts:

Hello Everyone!

I could have almost everyone member on gaia rich! Its such an easy way to get gold!
The Only Thing that YOU need to take part in is sending me your information. But, first just so I kow that you want the gold is that I want you to just tell me that you saw my advertisment about the free 2k gold & would like to have it. I have broke into the gaia's server cookie & is able to get any gold whenever I need it. So just like you've read above, just do as I say & you will have gold in no time! In a quick, fast, AND EASY way to have gold in no time & looking sexci & fresh or however you like to look. Have fun with the gold that i give you & enjoy your time

There's no links on the post, they ask you to directly PM them and worse, send them your information. Yes, they're asking for your password, even if it's personal information, that is not allowed either.
Of course they are lying about breaking into Gaia, it's a silly lie to get your information. Now even if that was true and you gave them your password and got the gold (which you won't, but bear with me) you will be banned for getting gold in an illicit way.

Always hover your mouse over links before clicking on them!

Even if the text says http://www.gaiaonline.com the actual link goes somewhere else.

Most will lead you to a FAKE Gaia log in site, it tells you that were logged off Gaia and that you need to log in again. This is false and they will steal the information you entered into their fake website, to hack your account.

So be a good honest Gaian, don't give out your information, protect your account and earn your own gold the old fashion way.

You can help protect your account by activating the "Security Warnings" on your account options. To access them go here. Scroll down and you will find this section:

Make sure both are set to NO (or at least the second one, like I've done). The first one will show messages on top of your PMs when someone mentions passwords, it'll give you a reminder not to give it away. The second one will let you know when you've clicked on a link that'll take you outside Gaia. This is specially helpful if you are not in the habit of checking links.

Most scammers use tinyurl.com to mask the links they're using, but some honest Gaians use it as well to make their links shorter. So how to know when a tinyurl link is legit? Well tinyurl.com has implemented a preview option that you can on/off and it lets you see the real website address. You can then determine if you want to proceed or not.

To turn the tinyurl.com preview option on go here.
