__'When you start Battle, you’ll play through a training mission that teaches you the basics of the game, but when you’re done with that training mission, you’ll enter into…
__…Barton Town!
__We don’t want to reveal the whole thing quite yet (because surprises are fun), but here is a section of that town brought to life within Battle.
__The Town is thriving with not just the various shopkeepers and personalities you already know, but many more characters are being added to make it feel like a thriving village. You’ll be able to spend a lot of time here, in Gaia’s first town.'






__Rina: The good-natured, flighty, some would even say ditzy, owner of the Barton Flowershoppe. Rina can be challenging to speak with because she's just so excitable, but almost everyone in Barton Town loves her like a daughter.


__Leon: The commander of the Barton Town Regulars, Leon leads the defense of Barton Town and its outlying suburbs. He has a large contingent of guards that operate in Town and the surrounding countryside. Leon is a friendly, good-natured, bear of a man who treats his mother well and is loyal to his friends.


__Nicolae: Nicolae (“Nicu” to his friends) is the owner and proprietor of a travelling gypsy wagon. He’s set up camp in Barton Town while “all the craziness settles down”…which may be for much longer than he originally intended.









Backalley Bargains

__Nicolae (“Nicu” for short) has a mobile shop in the back of his horse-drawn wagon. He’s a somewhat mysterious fellow that traffics in the new items found after the Animated began to appear in the world.
__Nicu is the one that handles all the recipe exchanges, converting monster loot drops into items that you can wear and place in your house. He also sells rare and unusual items that may pique your interest. Stop by and say “hi” sometime.

__'To the west of the Villages are the woods near the cleft hill known as Barton Trench. Carved out of those woods are the pastures and farmlands of Bill’s Ranch. Bill raises cows, chicken and is a famous farmer of garlic. He and his son, Purvis, run the ranch, selling their wares in nearby Barton Town.'








__Rancher Bill: Bill runs a farm and ranch to the west and south of Barton Town. He’s been here for years and has quite the extended family working the ranch along with him.


__Purvis: The spectacularly dense, but amazingly strong son of Rancher Bill. Purvis’s hobbies include carrying cows for distance (he puts them over his shoulders like a yoke) and driving fence posts for speed (he holds them still with one hand while he drives the post into the ground with his other fist).







__Garlic: This “stinking rose” has a tendency to belch excessively on anything that startles or annoys it.

__Alarmskeeter: Combining an alarm clock with a mosquito left the world with a critter that possesses the two most annoying sounds in the universe. The Alarmskeeter uses its highly irritating alarms and buzzes to aggravate a target’s inner ear and drive it mad.


__Laceback Bootsnake: Yes…this creature seems to have once been a rubber boot. And yes…it seems to now be a snake. But it’s NOT “a snake in my boot”…so don’t say that.

__'To the west of Barton Town lie the sculpted and manicured Zen Gardens, tended by a family of resident botanists and horticulturists. Koi ponds, bamboo trees and groves of lanterns surround a central contemplation shrine. Famed throughout Gaia, these Gardens are a famous tourist attraction. The woods they border to the west are dense thickets that few people have a reason to brave. The road leading west is the way to Durem.

__It is home to the Wish Tree, the Shrine, and the entrance to the Ninja Enclave.'







_Katsumi: This lonely and slightly detached girl tends the shrine in the area. Solitary for many reasons, she is reserved and quiet, speaking rarely and only to those she has come to trust.


_Ninjas: There is a Ninja Enclave deep within the forests to the west. These ninjas have been known to help the Barton Town council with issues from time to time, in return for the sufferance of the Town’s guards. They have had many conflicts with the Pirates of the Shallow Sea and have run afoul of G-Corp and its plans on several occasions.






_Kokeshi Doll: Seemingly small and innocent, these toy dolls have become twisted. Watch what they carry. They are NOT your fans.

_Ghost Lantern: Each evening after sunset, these disembodied flames hover in the night air. Why? That would be telling. (And this is just the floating flame right now... not the actual monster.)

_'The remains of the old aqueduct that was used before the Durem Reclamation Facility came online are still present here, although dilapidated and fallen now into beautiful ruin. The jungles to the northwest stretch down this far, but have not yet fully consumed the old stones. The Zurg artifact called the Star Portal lies dormant here still, guarded by a handful of ever-present GIB agents.'

_Predator Prairie Pup: A scouting party from an highly technological race of beings came to our planet and were stranded here. Unfortunately for them, despite their vastly superior weaponry and armor, they are the size and appearance of small prairie dogs.

_'The old boardwalk here has been purchased by a coalition of pirates and is being renovated for a massive grand opening in the future. Currently, most of the area is still sealed off as the construction continues, but some of what is changing can be seen from the beach, and pirates give hints of things to come.'
