• The insults come like hellfire raining down upon my fragile soul/
But I welcome them and put them in my journal/
So I can keep track of how many insults I’ve brushed off like snow/
Because I learned that the insults can’t cut you like a knife unless you let them/
They are just words coming from an outsider who can’t even comprehend what you are because you are too good for them/
They are scared of you and so they try to make you feel like they are better than you are/
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for I have learned that the darkness can’t touch me because it’s nothing more than a collection of empty words trying to get into my head, and I don’t let it.
Take it from me, a kid who’s had suicidal thoughts, to tell you how to combat this darkness of racial slurs and name-calling. All you need is a light in the darkness and that light is YOU! You are your own savior because we all fight our own demons and no-one else can truly help us if we succumb to this horrible darkness coming from the dirty mouths of people who are nothing more than scum. Believing in yourself is the first and last step to overcoming the darkness; for insults are only deadly if you let them be.
Once you believe in yourself, the others realize you aren’t falling for their party tricks in the form of words that are the polar opposite of what you really are.
The insults come like hellfire raining down upon my fragile soul/
    And I no longer care/
