• Out in the country,
    where the lights are few,
    the stars shine brightly,
Brighter than anything we have seen.

The little ones reach up their hands,
trying to grow wings and fly,
    up to the shining lights,
    flickering in the night.

    We watched them and smiled,
gentle white clouds emerging from our lips,
    Knowing that they will try,
    and try,
    and try,
    until the sand man comes,
to put sweet dreams into their heads.

    We walked away,
    smiles still in place,
    looking up,
    up at the stars,
that shine brighter than anything we have ever seen.
