• You assume that they only want the best for you. After all, what reason do they have to hope for anything else? They know that, because of your nature, your success is their success. And, if you fail, they know that you'll turn to them for support, painting them as the heroes and furthermore, were they the naysayers in the beginning, the wise ones.

    If you fail.

But it is this alternative that they hope for, long for, even pray for.
    But why?
Is it because, were you to succeed, they would be seemingly out shined in the eyes of others, condemned to being cast beneath your shadow?

    Possibly.

But most likely this loathing they have for your success is less a result of fear of your shadow but more of a fear of a light being shined on them. A light in the darkness reflected onto them by a mirror.

For we all know that mirrors do not lie.

And this mirror, being no different , will shine truth onto them and their every word, action and deed. It will show them for who they truly are. Yet, it is not you finding out that they worry about. You already know what they are and have chosen to accept them despite this. They are afraid that they will no longer be able to hide from themselves. Just as gruesome Quasimodo must have felt the first time he saw his reflection, they will have to examine what they see in this mirror in a horrified splendor. And what is it that they will see? Nothing. You see, they want you to do as they do. In fact, as they are. Try Nothing. Do Nothing. Be NOTHING. That way they can excuse their own lethargy, lack of creativity and overall lack of motivation.

They have fallen into a rut.

    A rut of Nothingness.
They no longer think of anything of any true importance.

Therefore they may as well think Nothing.

They no longer do anything above the bare minimum.

They may as well do Nothing.

They no longer look to the horizon of their lives, hoping for Something greater in the distance; a better tomorrow, a rope to climb out of the rut, even a cloud to drip the first drops of a brainstorm.

    They are Nothing

And what better way to compliment the black hole of Nothingness that they have become, besides more Nothing...

    another Nothing...

    YOUR Nothing?

Were you Nothing, there wouldn't be anything to threaten them. But as long as you refuse to do Nothing, they will always be threatened by Something.

You toss a rope into the rut, hoping to pull them out of their hole and show them that there is Something outside of it. And even a little Something thats going to take a lot of work is better than Nothing.

You tighten the rope around your character so as to be ready should they decide to take hold of the rope and DO SOMETHING.

    But they do Nothing.

    And you wait.

    As they do Nothing.

    Yet you still wait.

    Then something happens

At first you don't notice it because it is so subtle, so slight, that it as if nothing happened at all. As they continue in their Nothingness, their Nothing begins to do something. Like a vine entangling itself in everything near it, It ever so slowly takes hold of your rope and pulls you down, forcing you to fall into the abyss.

As you waited to turn these Nothings into Anything, Lethargy set in.
And just as a drowning man pulls down his very salvation these Nothings have pulled you into their rut.

    And you tumble down

    down

    down

on your way to becoming Nothing in a hole of Nothingness.

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

And its a long fall when there is Nothing to hit at the bottom.
