• The World through Kind Eyes
Have you ever witnessed something that sickened you by its cruelty but yet you did nothing at all about it? Have you ever wished you would have done something but just forgot about it? I have. I believe everyone has at one point or another. I was a witness to the rudeness of our society. A man stole an old lady’s purse. The old lady ran after him screaming at him with a shake of her cane. She managed to hit the man a few times and to get her purse back. The old woman shouldn’t have had to fight her own battle against the man while the rest of the self absorbed society sits around and soaks up their “awesomeness”. Unlike our rude society the medieval knights were polite and honorable.
It takes a strong stomach to not get sick by the society we live in. The people are disrespectful to just about everyone, the old and the youth. They do cruel things to each other for their own amusement and they usually do not feel guilty. When did the change from honorable and polite transform into the cruel and rude world we live in? The terrorism that is going on in the world is horrible. It is cruel to kill innocent people because of a religious or a certain faith. The reality is that this is a natural reoccurring of our history, so every era has its harsh or rude times. Some things are good about our society though because there are some people who aren’t harsh or rude. Some people rise above the rest and even above the knights of the medieval times even if they aren’t risking their lives. Sometimes you don’t need it to be a life of death experience to make a difference.
The Medieval knights were honorable and faithful to their kings and to their people. They would give their life for their people. They would not just walk by if someone truly needed help. But they also had their downfalls. The upper classes oppressed the lower classes. Until it was a law that nobles had to respect other nobles, and when they got mad, they declared war and raised armies. It is the same as why most people don’t go around killing other people, it is not because it would be considered rude, but for the fact it is against the law. Because people do not fear what others think of them, they mostly fear for what they, themselves, will have to go threw for doing what they do.
Every era has its rude people and polite people. The only time that rudeness can rise above politeness is when the polite people stand around and do nothing to stop it. Our world has harsh moments but so do the knights of the medieval times. It’s just a part of life. I don’t believe it would be entirely fair to say that one era is worst than another era. Sometimes the good just shines brighter; other times the darkness smoothers the good. Even though we are sickened by the cruelness it’s never going to go away entirely so we might as well get over it and just go on in this world trying to be better people to make a better reality.
