• Kahlan awoke the next morning from a brutal hunt. She had gone out with her whole clan; except the elders, on a full moon. They had run into many werewolf through out their night of feeding. Kahlan was a daughter of one of the elders in the coven. She carried her own silver stake for protection at all times. She often had many escorts but she always found a way to slip away from her father's guards. Her Father William was the oldest and strongest vampire among their coven. He was the only elder in their coven. As far as she knew she had never met any other elders but her father. She would meet Serin next year for the awakening. She was the only daughter to any of the elders. In her case, she was the daughter to William.

Kahlan sat up in her bed and looked around the dark gloomy room. The only light was the morning light of her stain glass windows. It kept the sunlight from entering her room but gave her enough light to see. She climbed out of her bed and over to her closet. She looked inside and put on a white dress. She grabbed her silver stake from the night stand and slipped it inside of her dress in a sealed compartment. She walked to the huge doors of her bedroom and cracked them open to see that there was nobody in the hallways. She slipped out the doors and silently walked down the stone steps and glanced at the thrown to see her father was not there. She let out a breath and then blurred out of the room an down to the stables. She knew it was forbidden to leave the castle without an escort but it was even worse to leave during the daylight hours.

Kahlan found her horse, Dimirtri. He was an all black stallion and was the fastest horse in the whole village. She strapped on a saddle on Dimitri's back. She gave him a pat on the back before climbing up onto his back. She slid on the white hood that was attached to her dress. She could tell that it was late afternoon. It must be about 6 hours after noon.It was safe for her to ride out into the forest where the tree's would give her coverage. "May the spirit's protect me." she said to herself and he slapped the rein's on Dimirtri's back and he trotted out of his stall of the stables and out the back entrance of the stables that lead off of into the woods. She gently nudged Dimitri's side and he took off into the woods.

Kahlan clutched reins of her horse as they rode in the woods. Dimitri, under her was gliding over the pine needles like it was effortless. The trees above them gave her good cover from the light. Only a few rays of light would penetrate through the thick and dark forest. She was mindful of those rays and she steered Dimitri around them when she came across them. She had caught the edge of her hand in one a few years back and it was a pain she never wanted to feel ever again. She was enjoying her ride when she came across a sent in the woods.

She pulled the reins back and Dimitri stopped. She took in a deep breath and her eye's went from the crystal ice blue to a deep sky blue, the color of vampire eyes. Her fang's where ever so slightly protruding from her lips. She smelled the sent of fresh blood.

She turned her head from side to side and then found where the sent was, off in the distance. She slapped the reins on Dimitri's back and he lurched forward. They rode off towards a clearing in the woods where the light shown in. She could not enter the clearing due to the sunlight but she could watch. There where pieces of vampire bodies and lycan bodies strewn all over the earth in the clearing. The blood that clung to these limbs was stagnate. She wrinkled her nose and decide to leave. She smelled it again. The smell of fresh blood. She narrowed her vampire blue eyes and spotted some one trying to leave the clearing. It was a man, he was injured badly and was trying to get out of the clearing. He was on the other side and he was in the sunlight. That meant he was not a vampire, and she could tell he was lycan. She could smell the earthy smell that clung to the skin of lycans.

She rode around the end of the clearing willing Dimitri to be as silent as a ghost. She got to the other side and climbed off her horse. She pulled her white hood up over her head and decided to observe him. She was not frightened by lycans but she did't trust them. She hid behind a tree and watched as the man stumbled into the forest. She could see that he was dying. She thought for a moment and decided to help him but her father could never know. She stepped forward out from behind the tree knowing that he would see her but not be able to see his face. She walked towards him but avoided a beam of sunlight and walked over to him. She laid her ice cold fingers on him and helped him sit down and lean up against a tree. She knew he wasn't a vampire but lycans needed blood as well. She raised her wrist to her mouth and bit into it drawing blood. She held her hand out in front of his mouth. "Drink." she said, her hood slid down off her head exposing her face to him, her long black hair shown and her bright brilliant eyes looked into his. Vampire blood was stronger than human blood and it would close the wound and make him stop bleeding but it wouldn't heal the wound completely. She didn't know if this Lycan knew she was an elder's daughter or if he just thought she was just a vampire woman.

Kahlan watched as the man pushed her hand away and tried to get up. Why was this man refusing her help. She didn't care that he was a werewolf. Yes, she had been taught to hate them but she had never met one like this. She watched as he tried to walk away but tripped. She rushed to his side and in a blur was next to him. He was now on his back facing up. She raised a brow when he said to just kill him. Was this man so eager for death that he was asking a vampire to finish him? She brought her wrist to her mouth and her tongue rolled over her bite mark. The endorphin's in her saliva closed and healed the wounds."If that is your Wish, then it shall be done." she said to him, he nodded and she watched him close his eyes. She stared down at him and from her dress she pulled out her silver stake. She slowly held it over his chest and whispered, "May the spirits guide you from this life, into the next." She plunged the steak into his chest and drove it thought his heart.

She heard him take one last breath and then he exhaled. She listened to his heart sputter and then the rhythmic beating was no more. She watch the color from his skin disappear and the veins in his body turn silver. She pulled out the stake and cleaned the blood from it. She placed the stake back in her dress and she folded the Lycan's hands over his stomach. At last she stood and walked back to Dimitri. She mounted him , her skirt's and cloak trailing down the horse's back. She placed her hood up over her head and she looked over her shoulder at the dead Lycan. She felt a breeze and heard a faint 'thankyou' in the wind. She didn't smile, but turned back to face forward and she slapped the rein's on Dimitri's back. They bound off into the sunset towards the castle
