• Hiding in the dark

I approached the lake and dipped my arm into it; the cold water was satisfying enough for me to feel relaxed. From the corner of my eye I saw a shadow like figure move past me, and then another followed by another. The next thing I knew they were all around me as if they were mocking me. I fell to the fall as one of them pushed me from behind, I could hear the little giggles coming from them as they started dancing around in a circle. Trying to recover my balance I stood up and prepared myself for another attack, watching carefully as they circled me one flew in, I punched it before it had a chance to knock off balance again. It burst apart sending red and blue sparkling powder flying off in the mist, the other figures stopped and glared at me, angry that I destroyed one of their kinds. The shadowed figures all grouped together and form an even larger figure, but this one had a spot missing in it, must have been the one I destroyed. It lunged at me, sending me backwards sliding across the ground; I got up but got hit again. This time when I stood up I swung into the air and made contact with the figure sending it backwards this time. It flew up and let out an ear piercing screech. I covered my ears but it was no use, the screeching got louder and louder, then a bright light flashed in the sky replacing the screeching into a loud cry, I opened my eyes and saw Warne channelling a ray of light at the figure. Then it vanished along with its cry. “What in Zeathros is the matter with you?!” Warne Shouted as he ran over to me.
“I’m sorry.” I told him. “I woke up and my arm started burning so I ran to the lake to cool it off.”
    “Are you alright?” He asked.
“Yeah I should be fine, just a few sore bones really.”
“Let’s get back to the rest spot so you can tell me what happened to you.”
I hadn’t realized how far I traveled from our rest spot but, I never stopped watching all around me until we got there.
“Lie down and tell me what happened to you.” He said.
He began casting another one of his spells on me as I told him what happened, and how the shadowed figures started in a group, and how destroying one of them set them all on a rampage.
“You should be fine for now, we should continue our journey if we want to get to Zeathros by sunrise.”
    “Hey umm, Warne.”
    “Yes?”
“Thanks for the help back there with the creature, I wouldn’t have been able to defeat it myself.”
“You are most welcomed, and besides, I need you alive when we get to Zeathros.” Warne said as we started walking to Zeathros.
“And next time you get attacked but one of those, close your eyes.”
    “Why?” I asked.
“Darkness can only hurt you if you can see it.”
