• I thought of you today. Walking past the playground, I saw the best thing. A little girl and boy, maybe five, seven at the most, were playing on the monkey bars. The girl had her hair in pigtails, but the day’s activities had made them droopy, and her blonde hair was blowing into her face. Her shirt was stained with leftovers from lunch and the knees of her jeans were dirty. The boy laughed as the girl yelled something from where she was swinging on the bars. The fire engine on his blue shirt was faded and torn, and his shorts were well-used. You could tell they weren’t just two kids that happened to find themselves at the park at the same time. Didn’t you hear that laugh? That has history.
I couldn’t help but flashback to years ago. Do you remember swinging on the playset in your backyard? We would race to see who could reach that magic point that made the corner of the swing set pop out of the ground. Feet pointed high, leaning way back, laughing all the while. Two best little-kid friends.
I thought of this today, and it put a smile on my face. It’s been years since I thought of you last, but moments such as these bring me back to those days. I hope that you have found the same joys in life that I have. My inner kid wishes you all the love a six year-old heart grown into this 18 year-old body can send.
