Artemis sat in a tree, gazing down at the path that Prince Agravius was riding down, seated upon a large black wyvern, along with his hunting escort on a goldenbrow. She tucked a lock of her black hair behind her pointed ear, eyes widening as she She hissed angrily when the horrible human whipped his poor mount. tI wasnt the wisest move, the escort heard and spotted her in her torn, tattery dress. Agravius' escort fired an arrow at her, which she easily dodged. One after another, the arrows flew, and each one Artemis managed to escape. Finally, she jumped to another tree and dissapeared from the Prince's sight. "DAMN IT!" he screamed, losing his ever-short temper. he had not caught an elf since he had gone hunting. Suddenly, there was a rustle in the trees behind him, and she jumped and knocked him off his wyvern, slashing its harness with her dagger. Artemis spoke to the beautiful beast in dragontounge, the language of dragons, and it listened. The Wyvern, whos name she now knew was Wind, spun on the goldenbrow and her rider and, with a snap of her massive jaws, sank her fangs into the screaming escort while artemis freed the goldenbrow. She jumped on wind, and she directed the magnificent beast with words of dragontounge. Wind sped on her two legs faster than most dragons, and her powerful wings beat in usion to slice through the air. She was atempting to fly. All of a sudden, with a mighty leap, Wind took to the air and soared over the treetops "to the right!" Artemis hissed, and with a slight jerk, Wind tipped one wing to the side and glided slowly down to the town square.
THUD! artemis landed with a jolt, and leaped off the dragon's back. A word of thanks in dragontounge, and then the wyvern was off, soaring through the skies. "guys, its safe! theyre gone!" she yelled, and murmers came from the huts as elves of all sizes stepped out. Soon, the market square was back to its usual bustle. "Artemis! Artemis!" Her little neighbor, Tullio, came running out to greet her. "artemis! tell me how you beat the prince!" She laughed, and sat on a stump, lifted Tullio up, and set him on her lap. "well," she said, "i was outnumbered a hundred to one, and..." and she spun an exagerated tale just for tullio to tell his freinds.
After a while, she glanced at the sky. " Tullio, its time to run along and go play." The little elf boy's ears drooped a little. "awwwww, but i wanna hear another story!" She laughed at the expression on his face "no. now go play! i need to buy some more cloth for a new dress." The elf boy's ears perked when he heard his friends further off, scurrying in their direction.
He was selling his cloths in the market square, when he caught sight of artemis. Her long, black hair glimmered in the dappled light of the sun filtering through the leaves of the trees overhead. He watched as she picked up Tullio, Sat on a stump, and rested him on her lap while she told him a story. Her lovely green eyes sparkled when she laughed, then she sent Tullio to play with his friends.. The beautiful girl stood and started walking twards his stall. He noticed her leaf-dress was torn up again, and assumed she needed a new one. and his stall WAS the tailoring stall...
Roniliar's heart raced when he thought of talking to her. Almost everyone in the valley knew he liked her, well, except her. She stopped in front of his stall. "roniliar, im not sure if youve noticed but the old dress you tailored me is torn up a bit. Can you make me a new one? I need good flexibility, a nice design, and a belt to sheath my dagger." She flashed him a radient grin and leaned her elbows against the counter, resting her chin on her hands. He felt nervous "yeah, sure... course..."he mumbled. Artemis laughed. "some times you can be so WIERD Roniliar. That made him blush fiercely. She laughed and grinned. "can you have it for tomorrow?" He rolled his eyes. "of course. i had your leaf dress done in less than fifteen minutes!" That made her laugh again. Suddenly, they heard a scream.
Artemis had been talking to her crush, the blue eyed, straw blonde haired elf boy, roniliar when she heard the cry for help. Wheeling around, dagger already in her fist, she saw Prince Agrivius. He had Tullio in one arm, and a dagger pressed to her little neigbor's throat in the other. Her face must have been fierce, because it made Agravius shudder. "let Him Go" She said through clanched teeth. Agravius only laughed "ill let him go if youll give yourself up. A life for a life." He grinned maliciously, no doubt imagining his prize, a new slave. "Artemis! dont do it!" Little Tullio's shrill little voice pierced the cool forest air as he kicked angrily. "get off me you ape!" Agravius pressed the dagger to the boy's throat harder. "shut up, swine!" he growled. "so, do we have a deal?" Artemis rolled her eyes and threw her dagger down."i agree. And you don't need to be such a drama queen, agravius" The prince glared angrily. then he barked an order to his new escort. "Bind her!" His escort grabbed her shoulder and pulled her closer to the dragons. He took a rope out of the dragon's saddlebag, and tied her wrists tightly behind her back, ensuring it was painful. He forced her on the dragon sideways, and tied her legs in the same way. Agravius laughed. Even in her defeat the elf girl sat tall and proud!
Roniliar watched, horrified, as the prince and his men threated artemis with Tullio. Typically Artemis, she gave herself up the the psycho prince, let herself be tied up as they sat her on the dragon. Even in capture she sat as tall and proud as ever. She laughed, and the dragon made a chortling hissing noise. Aparently it has said something rude about its masters. Roniliar went up to his freinds. "guys, weve gotta help artemis." Arii laughed "of course, dummy. We're not just gonna let them slaughter her! Grab your bow and arrows!"
He knocked his arrow into position, then the three of them let their shafts fly. They hit the escort, and he fell. Agravius escaped harm, sadly, unlike his dragon, who had several wounds. The coward prince turned his steed and fled. The other dragon, freed of its master, shook artemis off. The beast was at least three metres tall, and if she landed the wrong way the fall could break her neck! She didnt cry out as she fell, all he saw was her clench her eyes shut. Roniliar dashed forward...
She couldn't help but laugh when the dragon commented on his master's personal hygene, then glanced back at the others, noticing Roniliar andhis friends grabbing their bows...
Roniliar and his freinds shot the escort, and the dragon, free of its master, shook her off. She knew the fall would kill her, but she did not cry out. Instead, she clenched her eyes shut, not willing to watch herself die. Instead of hard ground, though, She felt hands under the back of her knees and the small of her back. She opened her eyes and saw golden locks of hair and blue eyes filled with concern. She heard roniliar talking, "artemis....are you ok?" Her breath was taken away, It all seemed like a dream, but not a bad one. Just kiss me already! she thought. Artemis blushed fiercely, and Roniliar sat her on the ground and bent, he had her dagger and used it to slice through the ropes, and handed her the parcel with the new outfit she had ordered in it. He had made a different one earlier for her birthday, but he gave it to her now. She looked at it, eyes full of tears, then dashed of into the woods. "artemis!" he called after her, "wait...!"
She hurtled through the woods, headed to dragon head rock. Branches whipped at her face, slicing through her tanned skin. But she kept on running, muck coated her thin dress, chilling her to the bone, She would not stop til she reached Dragon head rock. She could hear Roniliar blundering through the brush, calling her name. She wanted to stop, go back to him, but something inside of her wouldnt let her. She couldn't get it-all of them seemed to care about her so much, always doing really kind things, but she was constantly putting them in danger, and Artemis hated that. She reached the rock, grabbed the first handhold she found, and scaled it. The rough, sharp stones tore and calloused her hands. By the time she reached the top, they were raw and swolen. She heard talons scrabling on the stone, and saw wind. The drake called to the goldenbrow, who with her arms, picked up the girl and carried her into the cave. They lined a large crevice with pine boughs and dried animal furs, and placed her into it. It would serve as a room for her. She crawled into the crevice and fell into a deep slumber, where she dreamed of roniliar.
The brush cut his face, but he persisted after her. The woods were filled with countless dangers, such as dark elves, vampires, and Irikajik, also knows as giant wolves. The reached a rock. A piece of her tattery old dress was caught on the stone. "dammit artemis! dont you EVER make tracking you down easy?!?" He sighed, and started to climb. The sharp rock calloused and hurt his hands, but he kept climbing, despite the hissing coming from above. He reached the top and saw a massive wyvern baring his way. Looking past the drake, he saw a cave. And what was that in peering out of the crevice....It was Artemis! He rushed past the wyvern, dodging a vicious claw swipe. "artimis!" He grabbed her shoulder and dragged her out of the crevice, and noticed she was wearing the clothes he had tailored for her. "artemis, damn you! you never make things easy! why the hell did you run off like that?!" She looked down, keeping her eyes averted. He felt a pang of shame for snapping at her like that. "look, artemis, im sorry i snapped like that..." He put his finger under her chin and turned her face twards him...
And he kissed her.
And she was kissing him back.
His hand was behind her head and the other around her waist. Her arms were around his shoulders, and they pulled each other closer. their eyes closed, her lips against his...
And then the moment popped, like a soap bubble as she pulled away. "you have NO clue how long i have been waiting for you to do that" she laughed, and embraced him again.
She felt lightheaded. It seemed like they were alone in the world. Everything seemed right, His lips locked with hers, his arms around her waist and hers around his neck...he pulled her closer, moved one hand from her waist up to the small of her back, pulling her closer still...she didnt want to stop. She pulled her lips from his and leaned her forehead against his, smiling. "iv been waiting so long for this moment...I just dont want it to stop..."she sighed. He laughed, a sound she rarely heard. "youre not the ony one, so lets not stop yet..."And he started kissing her again. Artemis pushed him away, "No," Her eyes went hard. "I am not doing this again." She stood up and shoved herself away from him, snarling to the larger dragon. It obediently lay down, and before he could move she had swung up onto its back. "What are you..." But she was gone, the dragon had jumped, taking her with it.
He could feel tears coming, but forced himself to stop. Why did she always push him away? Every time he tried to get closer to her, to figure her out, they both got burned. He flopped against a rock and heaved a sigh. In the morning, he would go back to the village, and hope she was there.
"wind, We're leaving." Artemis was being blunt again. The dragon yawned and looked down at the elf girl. The small folk were so dense sometimes, but she owed the child. She oblidgingly bent to let her climb on after she had rejected the boy, and jumped off the cliff, following Artemis' directions.
He woke to the hars morning sun. It hurt his eyes, and his thoughts immediately wandered to HER.
Roniliar wondered if Artemis was alright, if that dragon was till with her, if she was thinking of him.
Probably not, he diecided, before climbing down the cliffs, only slipping twice. He forced his way through the trees and into the village. He was immediately assulted by questions. "WHere's Artemis?" "Is something wrong?" He ignored them and went to his home, flopping down on his bed. Arii came in. "Roniliar, are you ok?"
Wind had flown all that night, and landed in the morning with Artemis still on her back. As the dragon landed to rest, she woke up and streatched. She wondered how much she had hurt Roniliar that time? It was ironic, how all she wanted to do by distancing herself was protect him from her enemies, when she was probably hurting him just as much right now?
It wasn't the first time he tried to kiss her, but it was the first time he actually had. She always wished he would, but always stopped herself. "Why can't i do it, Wind?" SHe asked the dragon, tears rolling down her face.
