• When I stepped out of the store, it was a living Hell. I could see a little platoon of police officers shotting away globs of shadow goo off these weird monsters, black silhoettes of what were once people beating the crap out of what was left of the normal people, it was crazy! All the while I was thinking "What could have made those things?" running as fast as my non-athletic legs to go. We were almost to safety when a shadow just jumped out of a manhole and enveloped the cop in shadow-goo. Shadow-goo, thats what I called it, what else could I call it "an absense of light that came alive"? Anyway, there I was, scared out of my skin, my brain practically in a hurricane of thoughts and possibilities. Then I remembered what happened at the robbery. I was getting a snack there when I guy with a generic robber ski mask just came in with a gun, shouting at the cashier to hand over all the money there was. The cashier, being the old badass kind of cashier, pulled out a shotgun and the robber just ran. I had to get back to the store and get the gun, it was my only chance of surviving this nightmare. The guy with me was a new guy at the store, couldn't be 4 years older then me at the very least. I knew he was of little help, he knees were shaking the entire trip, but I couldn't just leave him there. I told him "C'mon, i have an idea but you have to trust me, alright?" He just half nodded and half shook, but I took it as a yes so I grabbed his arm and sprinted to the store.

I was in the store with the counter dude, relieved and a bit worried. The door to the store was made of glass, it wouldn't last long. I started blocking the door with little display racks and those spinning racks that have glasses on them. I reliezed the slight irony of that vut kept it to myself, this is no time for jokes I told myself. All that was left was the ice cream freezer. I asked the guy " Hey, could you lend me a hand moving this thing?" "Sure, anything to keep those freaks out." "And by the way, whats your name?" "John Irving, whats yours?" I knew he was gonna ask, so I gave him my middle name instead of my first "Greg". It took a while to move the freezer, but it was worth it. The barricade we set up could have kept out a zombie invasion. I quickly went for the counter, searching for the fabled shotgun. " What are you looking for anyway? nothing in there but candy...". He was right, "Is there like some kinda employees room or something?" I asked when I found out that there was nothing there, but not before snagging some gum while I was there. He quickly showed me to a employees only room. It didn't take me long to find the gun, there were only so many lockers there, I'm sure they wouldn't have minded if we smashed a few locks. The gun was heavy and cold and loaded as far as I could tell , so I went to the back door, looking awesome with my new weapon, feeling like I could take on anything.

It didn't take long for a shadow to notice me, I didn't hesitate to open fire either. I pulled the trigger and it was like I just got blown down by a hurricane. I was on my back scrabbling to get up and check if I had hit the thing....
