• Preface
Delilah rushed along the empty, soaked street. Her maroon dress clung to her legs. Her leather jacket did a poor job of protecting her from the relentless rain. She didn't run for cover. She continued along the road until she was out of town. She climbed up a steep hill to her mansion. She stepped into her marble foyer dripping wet. She sighed and walked quickly up the stairs. A loud burst of thunder made her jump. She continued up the stairs. Her heels made a comforting clicking noise. She felt goosebumps crawl up her spine when she touched the door knob. She walked into her bathroom to see everything was the way she left it. She sighed and walked to the window and closed it. She changed into a warm silk robe and stepped out of the restroom. She walked down the hall to her master bedroom. Her bed was made by the maid, Just as she expected. She snuggled into the warm sheets and picked up a book on the nightstand. She began to read.

And that's how the maid found her in the morning. Book in hand and a knife wound in her chest, knife missing.
