• The tall, pale statue stared down at me with sapphire eyes of glory. she had a silk cape and long flowing back hair with a purple dress, trimmed with gold.she looked like a ruler, with a gemmed sword in her hand and a face of power staring a hole in my brain.
"Yukie," Saiyou held his hand out behind him. "come on."
This field trip to the museim would be boring if it werent for my boyfriend Saiyou ironically being transferred to my history class. He was so kind, but also strange.
He took my hand firmly as we caught up with the class. "You'll get lost," He muttered lowly to me. "Be careful, Yukie."
I smiled up at him. "Sorry, Saiyou."
That statue looked so real, as if it was a human with porcelan skin! I was so distracted, it's image replayed over and over in my mind.
Saiyou turned to me, his long black hair flowing behind him, just like the statues. "Yukie, what's up? You seem different today."
"I don't know, Saiyou. That statue..."
He sighed. "It's just a statue. no one even knows where it's from. so get over it."
    "Lovely languege." I hissed.
    "Mhhm."
I rolled my eyes and followed him as the history teacher blabbed on about history. The place seemed so dull.
When Saiyou looked back at me, his eyes showed concern, protection, as if the entire town of Quincy, Illinois was in danger and he wanted to protect me. but here in quincy, its a small town, so nothing ever happens. But thats why I never imaginede anything to happen.
We were loading the bus, and that's when it all went erong.
As if melted from the shadows, a woman in a bright green dress and pale skin came from nowhere, a pale face and eager eyes. She had brown hair, and her bones were sticking right out. She woure a leaf dress, and held a wood made bow and arrow in her hand. She stretched it out to the school bus, and it aimed right through the window, to Saiyou. She stretched the string back, and narrowed her eyes.
"Saiyou..." I clinged to his arm. "What's..."
    He looked forward. "Oh, crap."
He pulled everyone off the bus. "Get down, everyone!" He called. Mr. Hughes, our teacher, grabbed Saiyou's arm in confusion.
"What is this about?" He called.
Saiyou looked at me, then the woman with the bow and arrow. She called something strange in latin, and then let go of the string.
She called in english now; "Silly dog!"
Saiyou jumped to me, pulling me to the side. The bow flashed through the bus, right past us, and weaved through the pack of students. It was as if they felt but didn't see it.
I fell to the concrete, and glass shattered in front of me. When my hands hit the ground, I felt a searing pain. Daring to look at the damage, I saw a long shard of glass stuck in my palm.

Kate called me the next day.
"Are you alright?" She asked through the speaker of the phone.
"My hand hurts," I shrugged. "Could be worse."
"Thats what we love; at least your positive about it." She laughed.
I rolled my eyes again. "Well, Kate, it's not like I have anything else to say. Am I missing anything in school?"
There was a scilence of voice but noise of quiet rummaging. "Saiyou picked your homework up. Just a page of math and the next chapter in Beowulf, God, it's a boring book."
"that book is how Saiyou and I met!" I called. "We went to buy them and saw eachother and discussed how we liked the book, became friends,"
"And a year later, your all lovey-dovey." She laughed.
    "Shut up!"
"I have to go," She mused. "Sorry."
"Alright, well, see you tomorrow, if i'm back."
    "Okay, bye Yukie."
I looked at the phone until it declared the call ended.
As I uncomfortably moved from my bed to the side table, I heard rustling outside my window. I gnored it and plugged my phone into the charger, trying not to use my bad hand.
More rustling. Now closer to my window.
Suddenly, an image caught me: A man with silky hair and tall, gray wolf ears atop his head, bright yellow eyes, like that of the moon, and a serious grin that told me I knew who it was.
    Saiyou. As a wolf.
