• ♥Lexii Rain

"L-Lexii!" Alexis heard the small cry, and whirled around in the crowd, frustrated, then worried, until she saw her's younger brother's tiny blonde head scurrying in her direction. People glared at her when she came to a standstill on the jam-packed street corner of Manhattan, New York. She glared back, then felt a tiny, sweaty hand slide into hers and looked down to see Evan, trembling. "S-sorry." he said quietly. Alexis bit her lip, her annoyance vanishing as she looked down at the eight year old she had been taking care of since he was five. She nodded, then pulled him across the street as the crowd began to move, firmly holding onto his hand.

She made her way to the nearest subway station, Evan stumbling after her. Sliding her metro card through the scanner, she pushed Evan through before sliding it again for herself. Taking hold of the eight year old boy's hand, she dragged him over to the edge of the platform, pulling back as one of the trains blasted through the tunnel, blowing Alexis's hair back.

"Where we goin?" Evan asked, looking at his sister in confusion. "We're gonna visit some people Ev. Now shut the hell up so you don't get us caught."

When she was pretty sure no one was looking, she hopped down onto the tracks, avoiding the third rail at all costs, also pointing it out to Evan. He held tight to his sister's hand as they picked their way down the tracks through darkness. Alexis stopped to dig through her pack that was slung over her backpack to find a flashlight. She finally found it and pulled it out.

"Lexii, what do we do if one of trains come?" Evan asked, voice trembling and echoing all over. Alexis clicked on the flashlight and took hold of Evan's hand again, to keep walking. "We would press against the wall next to us and hope we didn't die." was Alexis's dry reply

About thirty minutes later, and six close calls with trains, Alexis finally found their destination. From the outside, it looked line a hole in the wall, barely big enough to crawl through. Alexis pulled herself through first, it was a tight squeeze, then pulled Evan through. Alexis turned off her flashlight, and heard scuffling, then a deep voice.

    "Who the ******** is there?"

Alexis sighed. "It's just me Aiden." Alexis heard a curse, then a dozen huge candles flickered with flame all at the same time. Evan flinched away from the sudden light, and Alexis was caught in a tight, warm embrace.

"God Lexii..." Aiden murmured. "Where the ******** have you been the past year?" He held the seventeen year old girl at arms length. "You cut your hair." he observed. "And you're thinner. Hell Lex, have you been on the streets this whole time?"

"Yeah." Alexis muttered as Aiden pulled her into another lung crushing hug. "I was looking for Evan. Found the guys that took him." Aiden looked into Alexis's eyes. "Did you kill them?" Alexis nodded, a fierce look coming into her eyes, and Aiden sighed. "God Lexii, they deserved it, but..." He shook his head.

"So, um, can we stay here awhile Aiden?" Alexis asked quietly, and Aiden immediately nodded. "Of course." He reached out to Evan and pulled the little boy into the hug as well. :The other two should be back soon with food. I think we have two extra mattresses, but we might have only one. In that case, I don't mind sharing."

Alexis nodded, and Aiden let go of both of them, ruffling Evan's hair in affection. Alexis turned to him. "Let's go see how many mattresses there are." she said, seeing the droopy-eyed tired look on her brother's face.
