• “Why not mom?” Jaden whined as her mother was getting ready to leave. “Jade, sweetheart,” her mother turned to look at her, “you know why you cant come with me.” Jade thought to herself, yes, its all because i got detention...if only that was why. “Yes I do know why mom, its because you are going out with your new boyfriend while dad is at work and you don't want me to meet him because I probably know him considering I know most of the people in town!” Jade yelled at her mom. Kacy, Jade's mom, was furious. “You don't mention this to your father!” she grabbed Jade by the hair and drug her to the closet. “Stay in here till you learn to stay out of other people's business!” she slapped jade across the face then kicked her when she fell to the floor. Jade couldn't help herself. “You know someone probably heard you slap me and they are calling the police right now Kacy!” Jade was afraid of what her mom was going to do to her now. She shoved jade into the closet and locked the door. Jade was smart enough to have put food and supplies in here for when her mom went out with her 'guy-friends'. Her face stung where her mother slapped her. She dug around the small closet until she found a mirror and flashlight. She soon found them and turned the flashlight on. Wow I look awful, Jade thought to herself. She heard the lock turning on the closet door. She quickly turned off the flashlight and stuff it and the mirror under the blanket that was in there. The door started to open and she shrunk into the farthest corner of the dark closet.

“Jades you in there??” the voice said. She thought for a second then realized who it was. “JOHNNY!!” she jumped up and grabbed her older brothers shoulders, wincing a little from getting kicked by her mom. She tried not to let him notice, but he did. “Jades, you have to let me see what she did to you this time.” when she refused to look at him when he said this he put his hand on her arm so she could see it. She smiled a little then looked up at him. He examined her face with disgust. “what did she do to you?” he asked her in a worried tone. Their mother was awful to Jade, but not to John. He was her first born, her baby boy. She treated Jade like nothing but a worker. “she slapped me then when I fell she kicked me a few times, I think.” jade whispered. She looked up at her brother and smiled a bit. Her brother had blondish hair and the same blue-colored eyes as her. Most people passed them off as twins because they looked so much alike, but actually John was a year older than her. He could've left last year to go to college but he stayed to take care of Jade.”I'm bringing you to the hospital right now. She might have broken some ribs.” She looked at him and laughed. “whats so funny?” he asked her obviously confused. “its nothing, you look just like me!” she giggled. He couldn't help it, he laughed with her. “okay but I get to pick the doctor.” she finally managed. They drove to the hospital in silence, considering there wasn't much to talk about. Instead of talking Jade thought of a story to tell the doctors. When they got there John helped his sister out of his Crossfire. They walked in and the nurse took one look at Jade and called Dr. Wilkinson. He ran up to the emergency room and admitted Jade in right away. The Dr. was going to call Jade's parents, but since John was 18 there ws no need.

Jade was laying in the bed and the nurse came in and asked what happened. “Well I was playing with my dog Price Cinnamon Buns and I got pushed into the edge of a door.” The nurse looked shocked and infuriated. She asked “well then how did you get that slap mark on your face?” Jade didn't think about that one. John walked in and answered for her. “I hit her because she wasn't responding to me. I thought she was knocked out cold, and she was. Yes I know it wasn't the right thing to do and all that but I was panicking.” the nurse, who looked maybe in her 20s jade decided, scolded John once more then left the room. “thanks for the save!” jade said to her brother's concerned face. “whats wrong? Johnny?” he was in a daze thinking about what the doctor told him. The doctor had said that she was going to have morphine in her system so they can do the x-rays. He doesn't want her in a lot of pain when they do them. “hey jades the docs are gonna give ya some heavy medicine to knock ya out for a while okay?” he looked at Jade. “ya okay!” she was happy because then she wouldn't have to feel the pain of having to move anymore. Just then the nurse walked in and put an iv in Jades arm. She flinched when she seen the needle because she didn't like needles. The nurse must have noticed. “don't worry sweetheart, just close your eyes and imagine you are on a major vacation.” the nurse really wanted to get this over. John watched her sister close her eyes and smile. He could guess where she was thinking of. Paris. Her dream was for one day go to Paris and draw the Eiffel Tower. The needle pierced her skin and she winced on pain but then thought of the Eiffel Tower. And her drawing book. Jade felt the medicine flow through her veins. She opened her eyes and smiled at the nurse and John. Then she felt tired so she closed hey eyes and drifted off to sleep.
