• When my mother had died I started to move in with my neighbor, Lydia. She would always talk about how much of a hassle to her I am. She has never liked me and I don’t think she ever will. She loved my mother but hated me. I never see her at the house because her job causes her to have to travel, but that’s ok with me. She gives me money to get what I need so I’ll be ok. It could be much, much worse. For example, I could’ve been sent to a foster home with a really old grouchy lady who yells all the time.
    “Skylar, are you listening?”
    “Yes Mr. Allen. I’m sorry.”
“Hey.” Seth said as he kissed me on the cheek.
“You know Seth; you really shouldn’t kiss people when you have a girlfriend.” Callie referred to Lucas kissing me.
Seth has been Callie’s and my friend since the 5th grade. We’re now fifteen, so we met about five years ago. Callie and Seth have been dating for about two years now and I don’t think two teenagers could be any closer. Seth has black hair, gray eyes, and is kind of a skater boy type. He and Callie don’t look like a good match, but they complete each other. Callie takes up for Seth’s cluelessness and he takes up for her talent in being active.
“So Skylar, you are going to prom aren’t you?”
“Like Skylar here could get a date.”
“Seth, you should be nicer. She could easily get a date.”
“Thanks Callie, but Seth is right. I will never get a date. I’m not pretty and not very talented.”
“Skylar you’re very pretty and not only that, you have the voice of an angel.”
“Callie’s right. Plus, you could outrun most of the boys in school and you could easily nock Mackenzie Alley out of her spot as cheer captain. You’re more flexible than any of those girls could ever be. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.”
“Thanks guys, but all of those things are a lie and you know it.”
I could hear Callie screaming at Seth for what he said as I walked of. It doesn’t really bother me and I can’t get mad at him for telling the truth. That’s just how life is.
When I got home I heard Lydia yelling at someone on the phone. I try to avoid her when she is, because she won’t stop yelling. She’ll yell at anyone and everyone she sees for no reason at all. I find it very annoying. I don’t see how my mother put up with her.
