• Following the Moon by: Naomi Witten
.....A young woman, the age of 16, wearing a neon green tank top, an olive green knee length skirt, and black flip flops, is standing in front of Valvia, France's only night club, Volvara. Waiting silently, impatiently, and happily, for her best friend, Katherine, to show up with fake ID's to get in.
.....Her phone vibrated in her purse, telling her she had a text message. She flipped open her phone and read the text "Natalia, parents found fake ID's. They called your parents. Get out of there before the show up! - Katherine" Natalia shoved her phone back in her purse, and ran.
.....As Natalia ran she saw red and blue lights flashing, and heard people yelling after her, but she didn't listen. She ran of fast as her long legs would go. Natalia turned into a small ally to rest. She crouched behind the dumpster and sat as still as she could. Her breath slowed to a normal rate, but her heart was still beating fast.
.....Some one was standing at the end of the ally, their long shadows from the street lamp gave them away. Whoever it was seemed frustrated, and knew she was there. Natalia had a small stature so she could fit enough to hide, but whoever was out there couldn't fit down the ally.
....."Natalia, I know your there!" said her fathers angry voice. "The cops will take you away for this! When you come home, I know you will, the cops will be there!"
....."You stupid little girl!" came her mothers shrill voice. "Why would you do this? Answer me!"
.....Natalia crawled away from them. Keeping to the shadows to keep out of sight. She ditched her phone in a puddle being sure to short out the GPS tracker, and walked away.
....."I'm not going home." She said to herself.
.....Natalia walked down the vacant streets of Valvia. A smile spread across her face as she heard the thunder roll. The warmth of the summer rain soothed her as it poured atop her head. The anger at her family forgotten and the word said forgiven, but she was sticking to her word and not going home to hear her father ay "I told you so" a million times.
....."Where shall I go" she wondered aloud, but to herself.
.....All of her friends parents would be on her parents side and her friends would hate her as soon as word got out.
....."The Subway is too obvious. The library searches everywhere before closing. The streets are too dirty. I'm sure no one will take me in. If I tell the school counselor I will surely be sent home to suffer punishment." She said as she walked into the homeless shelter.
.....No one asked why she was there for they knew they wouldn't get an answer. She stayed there for the night and left in the morning. Following the moon, she walked to the west, and away from her home. Puddles from the night before were scattered across the street. Soaking her hoes with every step.
.....The sun was beginning to set when she arrived in Binkrun. Natalia looked at sign as she walked past it. Something about that name was familiar. She stopped and stared at the sign until it clicked.
....."This be the town of my mother's mother!" She exclaimed. "I shall go to her and ask her help!"
.....Natalia walked up the walk to a house she remembered well. For it is the house of her grand mother. She used to every summer until three years ago. When her mother and her grand mother had a fight that wouldn't have ended well if she had not called the cops. Natalia's mother ended up on house arrest and was not alloud within the same city as her mother.
.....As she knocked on the door she had a feeling of anticipation in her stomach. The kind of feeling that drives you crazy until you see what you came to see or do what you came to do. She felt sick due to the walking in the rain the night before.
.....At the moment the door opened Natalia blacked out....
.....Natalia woke to crisp sun shine and clean summer air. It took her a moment to remember two nights before and all that happened. She looked around and realize she was at her grandmothers. On the table next to the bed of her child hood summers was ;eggs, bacon, sausage, orange juice, and a note. Before even touching the food Natalia read the note.
....."Dear Nattie, I hope you don't mind me still calling you that. I made you breakfast in bed. I thought you might be hungry after walking all the way from Valvia. You were running a fever, so I left you two glasses of orange juice. I'll be in at noon to see you. Love, Gran"
.....Quickly she looked at the clock on the wall. It was eleven thirty. Gran would be here in half an hour.
.....Natalia had just finished her breakfast when Gran walked in. A happy smile spread across her face as she was comforted by her gran, and for once since her last summer there she felt safe.
