• Sequence 1

The lights flashed inconstantly as my mind slowly cleared. It wasn't long until I felt them coming for him. I staggered away as airy spirits came in and hovered over the wretched body that lay breathless. They stood there mumbling on as they motioned their hands back and forth. A squirming goblet of light rushed out of the body and into the spirits palm.
In a blink of an eye they had disappeared and I was left with the lifeless body. I stared around the area, looking for a way out, but it wasn't long until my mind gave in again.
The pain was overbearing but I knew it was almost over. I sat as far as I could from the corpse in the underground parking lot but the ache in my head grew worse. I knew I had to get further but I couldn't focus. I gripped on to my head and closed my eyes and waited for the pain to subside.
I awoke in a white room, still dazed, tired and unwilling to let myself awaken until a voice beside me broke through.
"Excuse me Miss, we need you to answer a few questions now."
I glanced over looking at a plump man in a blue uniform waving his hand in front of my face. It wasn't until I saw the words Officer Steels on a shiny badge attached to the uniform until I forced myself to sit up.
Realizing he was waiting for an answer, I nodded my head. Officer Steels hollered "She's ready" over the door and opened the door just wide enough for me to slip through. I followed him through the rows of white desks with busy police officers and suddenly it hit me.
[What if they thought I killed that man. s**t. I've gotten myself in trouble now. No way are they going to believe that I can sense death, more the less see the dead and further more get horrible headaches with it too. I should have never gone shopping, no, I should have stayed with the group and waited to leave together.]
"Miss, you look troubled, is there something that's hurting you?" I looked up at a different Officer this time who motioned me to sit.
"No, I mean yes, just a headache" I replied.
He handed me tylonal and a bottle of water and I took it right away. The dizziness began to subside within a few minutes. Then the Officer told me to explain what had happened back there in the parking lot.
I immediately said "I didn't kill him. I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. The man just dropped dead and gaged a bit and then didn't move again. I was scared so I hid in the corner."
I didn't realize until I was done that I had rushed my words but the Officer was now scribbling a bunch of notes down on a piece of paper labeled with my name in full was: "Katie Kimberly Sang."
"Ah yes, we took the liberty of checking you for ID." The Officer reached under his desk and grabbed out my wallet and passed it to me. Once he had scribbled down everything he needed he handed me my jacket.
"Katie, you're all done here, we will call you if we need to know anything else from you. We have already informed Mr. Kim, I mean your foster parents and they are waiting for you at home right now. Your friends are waiting for you outside right now, that young lad was the one that found you and called us."
The Officer gave an approving look and then led me out the door into the waiting room which had many black chairs piled row after row like a theatre on one level. Once I stepped into the room I heard my best friend screaming my name in her usual happy voice.
"KATIE! I told you not to go home by yourself especially since it was pretty late. You should have waited for us."
I turned to the direction of her voice and saw Cassidy who was probably the best friend I've ever had running toward me. Alongside her was also Alice who would be categorized as my second best friend. They gave me a giant squeeze and I had to ask them to stop so I could gasp for air.
Then at his usual walking pace Aaron came over and placed a gentle embrace on me and whispered "I'm glad you're okay" into my left ear. Then he stepped back and gave me a quick smile and said "I got to head out now. See you guys at school." I watched as he swiftly left the building as my heart was still racing.
[Yes, I had a really big crush on Aaron. I mean he joked around a lot but he was occasionally really cute and nice. On top of that he was hot, and one of the hottest guys at Luxborg High.]
"Katie, Katie!" Cassidy was now waving her hand in my face in a frantic attempt to grab my attention. I turned to her with a puzzled look and Alice just sighed.
"Where's everyone else?" I asked. "Their all home but Aaron wanted to make sure you were fine before he left and seriously... is there something going on with you two, like he's often non-talkative to us but with you he's so nice and caring." I listened as Alice continued on and then decided to let her take a breath.

"Guys, guys, there's nothing going on, trust me, he would never like me, plus we've been in the same class since grade school. We just know each other way back, that's all but we really aren't that close.
"Sure Katie, then what was the hug for?" Cassidy questioned. I replied "He was just worried that's all, like he never does that, and we hardly talk at school so it was a one time thing."
"Whatever you say Katie, whatever you say." sang Cassidy.
"Oh s**t, is my car still at the mall?"
"Nah, Aaron told me to drive it over, here are your keys." Alice handed me my keys that dangled of a key chain of single white feathers linked together with tiny silver and crystal bells.
I smiled happily as I took the keys and we all walked out of the building and went home.

I pulled into the court driveway of Mr. Kim's Mansion and slid my ID, into the slot which opened the steel gates. I lined my car up with all of the other cars and stepped into the mansion unlocking it with my keys.
As expected, the housekeeper was standing at the doorway and greeted me in a polite manner.
"How was your night Miss Sang? Mr. and Mrs. Kim are at a dinner party and will not be back until morning, although they did mention to inform you that you should avoid trouble as it will stain Mr. Kim's lifestyle. He is well respected you know."
Clearly all Mr. Kim cared about was his job as a major CEO of some kind of gourmet food line and clearly I didn't like him and the only reason I have to live with him and his family is really because he was my fathers closest friend and the police weren't able to contact any of my relatives.
Yes, my family is not here anymore, but somehow I managed to survive through a subway collision that burst into flames 5 years ago. Better yet, I was the only one that survived it. The police thought I was just lucky but I think otherwise.
My mother once told me that my family line descended to elders who were said to have specialties and gifts. Seems like it skipped my mothers generation and landed on me. My mother knew though, that I had these gifts, but she warned me never to tell anyone or let people find out. I don't understand why I'd even want to tell people. It'd just make me a freak, a loner, an outcast.
I walked up the white marble stairs and made my way to my room. The mansion was grand and overly expensive but I hated it. Actually I hated everyone in the house, well expect for Kian. Kian was like a brother to me. Even though we're not related he's always there for me.
In the beginning when I had first moved into the mansion, I was too overwhelmed with my family's death that I didn't eat and stayed locked in my room. Nobody cared about me but Kian would always stand outside my door and encourage me to eat something and tell me that everything would be fine. Sometimes when I was asleep from crying, he would unlock the door and sneak some food accompanied by a teddy bear and a card.
We both go to Luxborg High but Kian is 1 year older than me. He's a senior while I'm in grade 11. Kian is the only person I trust while I'm in the mansion, and he's the only family I feel I have other than my friends.
I stepped out of the glass framed shower and grabbed a white embroidered towel hanging from a silver hook. I wrapped in around my body and blow dried my hair that dripped wet. I slipped into my pajama's with a design of yellow ducks and brushed my teeth.
I heard the usual midnight knock on my room door. I came out of the bathroom just in time to see Kian slip into my room holding onto another stuffed teddy bear, this time with pink fur.
"Kian! I already have a huge a** collection, and I'm no longer in elementary school, remember?"
Kian smiled and put a finger to his mouth and whispered: "Shhh.."
"Kate, you do realize that if I get caught, dad's going to kill me. He already wants me to follow in his shoes and go with him to one of those food banquets that he's holding." Then he handed me the pink teddy bear.
I took it in my hand and walked over and opened up a white cabinet that was stuffed with stuffed animals and stuffed the pink one on top of the angel looking teddy.
I walked back and lay on my bed while Kian sat on the steel frames of the bed and then he said: "So anything happen today?"
Avoiding to tell him the whole police ordeal I cut it to the point and said: "Nope, you?"
He smirked a little and then brushed one hand through his golden brown hair, revealing a single diamond stud in his ear.
I stared at him with disapproving eyes, hiding that I thought it looked way too good on him. "Kian, you know when your dad see's that he really will kill you" I muttered.
"No, he'll just force me out the door to go to that banquet thing next week, like literally. So what do you say Kate? Want to come with me? I really don't want to go alone" he said it with pleading eyes.
"Ew No! Come on Kian, you know me better than that" I complained.
I stared into his light brown eyes and knew that any second now I would give in. "Ugh, fine, but you better stay with me the whole time" I said giving in.
Kian's pleading face turned into a brightened smile. "Thanks Katie. Good Night" he whispered. Then he bent over and quickly kissed my cheek before flipping of the lights and sneaking out without a sound back to his room.
I lay on my bed, thanking the world that Kian was the son of my father's closest friend and also hating that my father's closest friend had to be Mr. Kim.
I hadn't realized that it had become so late until I glanced over at my electronic snow globe alarm clock with mini teddy bear figurines which was again another gift from Kian. Before long, I had already drifted into sleep.
