• Camille slowly wakes up in the morning. The sun is still hidden, but the clouds are slowly turning soft orange and pink. She takes a cool bath to wake up, then dresses and leaves for her school bus; her breakfast is skipped. When the bus picks her up, she sits closest to the entry door. While sitting alone, she looks out the window. Her gaze is interrupted when the phone vibrated. She wasn't going to call it “her” phone. It was obligatory request from her mother to have a cellphone with her at all times.
“So I know that your safe, Hon” said her mother when asked why she was getting her one.
“No one will dare to hurt you, and I will always know what's going on”.
She took out the cellphone and read the message: “Loser, loose some weight and then maybe someone will sit with you”. After quickly reading it, she deleted it. Her day was slow and painful as many similar messages flooded the cellphone. Her only relief came as she came home; her mother was baking cookies which were in a form of a mini dove.
“How was your day, Hon?” asked her mom.
“It was okay, mum” Camille replied and forced a smile.
“Are you going to eat tonight, Camille?” her mom asked, now with a worried look.
“No mum, I already ate with some friends”. Camille hated to lie. She went upstairs to her room and locked her door. She lied on her bed, staring blankly on the white ceiling imagining herself as a bird, flying away. Suddenly she started to cry. She realized she was alone.
