• "Emmalie! Emmalie!" Chris called. I turned around.
"Oh, hey Chris," I said giving him a peck on the cheek. "what's wrong?" I asked, looking at his face. It was pale, and he was sweating.
"Um, oh, nevermind." he mumbled, turning his back to me. Just then, the bell for class rang. I took off running, but I noticed Chris was slowly walking behind me, his hand fumbling around in his pocket. He looked nervous, or scared, or both.
I'll deal with him at lunch. I thought.

"Chris, stop playing with your food." John, Chris's freind, said. He was pretending to be an angry mother. I chuckled. I looked at Chris. He was staring down at his lunch tray.
"Dude, what's your problem today? You're being really quiet and not laughing at John's jokes. I mean, even your girlfreind here got his jokes!" said Alan, another one of his freinds.
"Whatever, man. I'm leaving. Emmalie, I'm coming over to your house for homework tonight, okay?" said Chris as he got up to leave. He didn't wait for a response.
"Oh, yeah. Homework." John mumbled to Alan. I rolled my eyes, getting up to leave. But not without hitting John with a bananna and Alan with a juice bottle.

"Chris what was your problem today?" I asked as we were walking to his car. At least I didn't have to walk, or worse, ride the bus home.
"Nothing, dammit!" he yelled. He's never yelled at me before. We were quiet the whole way to my house.
When we were on the porch Chris sighed. "I'm sorry for shouting." he said, kissing me.
"S'okay Come on inside" I smiled. There, all better.
"Mom! We're home! Mom?" I yelled. I looked in the kitchen, on the fridge. There as a note. She always leaves notes there. I read the note out loud.
"Dear Emm, I have left for the week on a buisness trip. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner. Love. Mom."
"Well, okay then, let's get to buisness." Chris said.
"Alright. Come on to my room." I said. We ran up the stairs. When we got to my room Chris came in and locked the door. He grinned. As I sat down on a chair, Chris picked me up and dropped me on the bed. He layed beside me. He inched closer and closer until I could feel his breath on my cheek, feel his hand run down my arm, until I could hear his heartbeat...
"Hold the phone, here. I see where this is going." I said, jumping off the bed. "And I don't belive in sex before marriage."
"I thought you might say that." Chris said, getting on one knee. I blinked in suprise. "Emmalie Anne Jones, will you marry me? I will love you for you. We will be perfect for eachother. Please?" he pleaded. So this is why he was acting so strange today. I stared into his eyes. They looked very honest. I nodded slowly.
    "Yes."
