• In the beginning there was but Grandfather Chaos, who sat at the center of the universe mindlessly creating and destroying. Then two beings came from the roiling chaos, Him of Order a being of Order and Perfection, and She of Balance, a being of Balance. These two new beings sealed their creator into the very trappings of the universe. Then Order and Balance set out to harness Chaos and create a world, as it seemed like a good idea at the time. First they created Fire, to heat the world from within. Next, they made Earth, to keep Fire from burning all. Next came Water, to keep Earth cool. Then came Wind, to move the water about. Finally came Shadow for where there is light there must be darkness.
When the world was finished they saw that they had neglected to make animals mortal, thus everything was immortal, “At this rate our new world will be expended in a matter of days!” said Him of Order, “Sister think of something!” And She of Balance said to her brother “I shall make a childe who may take the life from things.” Thus Lady Death was born; but still the animals repopulated too fast. Lady Death went to her mother and asked for her assistance “Mother, I cannot take life from them quickly enough, the animals grow too fast.” Her mother looked upon the world and said “It is your grandfather’s doing, it is he who wishes us to fail.” And indeed it was ancient Grandfather Chaos who had created two new beings from himself.
The two new gods, Him of Tricks and Him of War, roamed the world taking animals and turning them into new being. The Him of Tricks took the chameleon, the monkey, and the jellyfish and created the Dopplegangan, who as clever as monkey, adaptable as jellyfish, and as stealthy as chameleon; were set lose to cause trouble for all. Him of War too took monkey, but he then added boar and wolf; thus humans were loosed upon the world. Suddenly, the gods found the world overrun with the new mortals, but as mortals go, humans were disloyal to the one who created them; some began to venerate Lady Death.
Lady Death looked upon these worshipers with glee, as they could help her with the task of bringing death to those whose time had come; she took the most loyal of them and gave them a fraction of her essence turning them into the Grim Servants.
Finally the world was balanced out, both animals and mortals were in balance, Him of Order and She of Balance could watch their creations in peace; for Grandfather Chaos had finally settled down, and no longer riled he produced a final god from his mass, Him of Art. Him of Art looked at what the other gods had built and saw that one thing was missing, a record. Him of Art saw thought that all of Creation should have a record, so he went to Chaos and plucked a small amount from it; with this piece of chaos he added Order and Balance in equal parts. From this came a new goddess, She of Fate. She of Fate began to record everything that happened in a giant tapestry, she knew her work would only be finished when the Ragnarok came, but she cared not as she was content with her masterpiece.
With everything in place the gods sat back and preformed their duties. Him of Order instituted order in societies creating nobility, Lady Death and her Grim Servants brought death to those whose time had come, The Him of Tricks and the Dopplegangan brought tricks and thievery where the went, Him of War bred strife and conflict urging mortals to wage war and spill blood, Him of Art inspired mortals to bring change and create, his daughter She of Fate wove her Grand Weave, Grandfather Chaos slept sometimes creating the odd monster, and finally She of Balance kept all in balance making sure no god was more powerful than the others. All would remain this way until Ragnarok, the End of Gods.
